Back in the mid 1980's there was a great deal of concern over the dumping of waste into rivers, lakes and streams. One reason was businesses would take samples of containers by using a straw or turkey baster. This would not give a representative sample of what was in the containers and consequently was one of the reasons many of our waterways became polluted.
