Engel moves forward with composites and moulding

Engel (Hall 15, Stand C58) has advanced its work in thermoplastic composites and at K 2016 it is showing two developments in which it brings injection moulding techniques to bear on composite components. On its stand, Engel is producing fibre-reinforced shovels on a V-Duo 1560/700 injection moulding machine to demonstrate a process that involves in-situ polymerisation. The group sees potential for applications in the automotive market and in technical moulding. The technology was first demonstrated at the 2012 Engel Symposium in Austria, using a prototype machine. Since then Engel has worked to optimise the system components and develop a new reactive aggregate that can be combined with different types of injection moulding machines.
