In oceans,plastics break down more slowly than in air.This is due to lower temperatures and because the plastic is shielded from radiation by the water and by any organisms attached to the plastic.The density of the plastic can also influence how much radiation the item receives (polyethylene and polypropylene float and are exposed to higher levels of while nylon sinks).
