摘要

Thermosetting plastics differ from thermoplastics in that the final formation process,curing or hardening,actually takes place in the mould.In-mould curing is a much more versatile process compared to injection moulding in that very large mouldings(e.g.ship hulls up to 200 feet long are being produced),can be made and the moulding process can take place at ambient temperatures.However it is not suitable for the high volume production of small parts.Thermosets also differ radically in their chemical structures which usually consist of highly-crosslinked polymer chains which form a three-dimensional network.Such chemical structures provide thermoset plastics with such useful properties as excellent mechanical properties,(high stiffness,hardness and strength),and greater resistance to solvents and heat.
