It is an international ambition to make photovoltaic(PV)solar electricity competitive with electricity from fossil fuels before the year 2020.In order to achieve the necessary cost reduction by at least a factor 3,PV Cells and modules should be produced much more efficiently.Polymers could contribute to this in several ways.First of all in the encapsulating parts of conventional crystalline cells and rapidly evolving thin-film cells and,in the near future,possibly also as the PV active material itself.
