Foundation of ZapSibNeftekhim cracker, downstream units / Project costs and start-up could still change

Russian petrochemicals giant Sibur (Moscow; www.sibur. com) has laid the foundation stone for its ZapSibNeftekhim polyolefin hub in Tyumen, western Siberia. The USD 9.5 bn investment, which Sibur said is its "biggest ever", will go towards construction of a steam cracker, capable of producing 1.5m t/y of ethylene as well as 500,000 t/y of propylene. The downstream capacities at the site will include polyethylene lines to the tune of 1.5m t/y - powered by Ineos' (Rolle / Switzerland; www.ineos.com) "Innovene" process -as well as a 500,000 t/y polypropylene line using Lyondell-Basell (Rotterdam / The Netherlands; www.lyondellbasell. com) technology.
