By a vote of 308 to 52, the plenary session of the UK's House of Commons has defeated a bill by its Environment Audit Committee (EAC) that would have reinstated an earlier moratorium on fracking that was implemented in 2011 and removed in late 2012. The victory for the government of prime minister David Cameron was assured after the oppositional Labour Party accepted its concessions that would restrict shale gas exploration in national parks, areas of outstanding natural beauty and in areas where drinking water is collected.
