Standard Thermoplastics Trend June 2011: Notations slide on monomer decline / PVC secures slight gains / General tendency toward surplus / Volume pressure propels special offers / Some prices could go lower

In the first few days of June, western European buyers of standard thermoplastics managed to win fairly substantial price concessions. With feedstocks generally softer, many producers dropped prices in line with the monomer reduction. Only PVC showed any resistance and rose again slightly. Chronically short EVA was stable and looked more likely to make further gains. HDPE producers trying to hang on to their razor-thin margins were willing to concede no more than half the monomer reduction.
