Driven primarily by the increasing number of applications for high-tech plastics in the automotive and electronic segments,the growth of technical,or engineering,compounds in Europe has been very dynamic over the past five years.Consumption has been rising at an annual rate of around 5 % since 2002,reaching a volume of 3.4m t in 2007.This figure can be divided more or less equally into compounded poly-olefins (PE,PP) and engineering compounds using PA,PC or PET/PBT.Both groups involve applications for thermoplastics that are filled or reinforced with glass fibres or mineral substances,or modified with additives such as flame retardants,UV stabilisers.
