Blow-molded, glass-reinforced parts with a living hinge are under development at Lear

While initial application is expected in automotive seat back/load floor applications, imaginative design engineers will soon come up with other uses. Only a few years ago the idea of blow molding glass fiber-reinforced thermoplastics was revolutionary. (The problem is that the glass fibers limit the parison's ability to stretch.) However, Lear is now blow molding polypropylene with up to 30% glass reinforcement and is starting to blow mold long-glass compounds.
