China in February export slump, year-to-date figures show 13.5% increase

China exported 3 million mt of coal in February, down by 1.42 million mt (32.13%) year-on-year, preliminary statistics from China Customs show.However, year-to-date figures show an increase in exports. China exported a total of 8.75 million mt of coal in the first two months of 2008, up 1.04 million mt (13.49%) year-on-year. This is mainly due to China's January coal exports totaling 5.75 million mt, an increase of 74.77% year-on-year and the highest monthly coal export figure since March 2006.
