Adani fires up first Indian mega-power plant

India's Adani Group had fired up the first 330-MW generating unit of its 4,620-MW coal-fired power plant at Mundra on the coast of the Western Indian state of Gujarat. According to local press reports, plant operator Adani Power Ltd. started the unit on May 23 using fuel oil and will gradually switch to burning coal over the next week. The Mundra coal plant consists of five 660-MW super critical power generating units and four 330-MW generating units. The rest of the Mundra plant is due to become operational by 2010.
