The Asian butadiene market softened Friday, pressured by heavy supplies for August as well as a quickly-closing arbitrage window from Asia to the US. The FOB Korea price benchmark plunged $60/mt on week and settled at $1,721/mt Friday. South Korean producers were still seeking opportunities to move spot cargoes to the US with a selling indication at $1,800/mt FOB Korea for September, but plummeting US prices shut the arbitrage opportunities for September loading. A buying indication was reported at $1,680/mt FOB Korea for September loading in order to match the CFR market for September business. The CFR China prices fell $36/mt on week and settled at $1,689/mt Friday.
