EDC: The Asian ethylene dichloride market was steady this week. Trading activities were sluggish due to limited spot availability. Selling indications were placed at $480/mt CFR FEA, while buying interests for vinyls production were reported at $450/mt CFR FEA. Some offers were reported at $500/mt CFR China for non vinyls production but the offer levels were not accepted this week. Non-vinyls producers were willing to take spot cargoes at $470-480/mt CFR FEA but the purchase quantity is reported to be small. The SEA market is reported to be pegged $10/mt lower than FEA as most EDC spot buyers are vinyls producers. In related plant news, South Korea’s Hanwha Chemical plans to shut its vinyls plant at Ulsan from October 1 for 10 days of routine maintenance.
