The US acrylonitrile price was assessed $20 higher this week, pulled higher by a potential open arb to Asia. The Asian price leveled off this week at $1,800/mt. With freight rates to Asia pegged at $100/mt, the US price was notionally at $1,700/mt FOB USG for export, one trading source said. “We think Asia is close to the top, and the US is going to level off at $1,700,” the source said. A second source, though, said prices were slightly below the $1,700 level. “We think the price in Asia has plateaued. The question is, is it going to fall off or not. We think it is,” a second source said. The price was assessed at $1,695/mt FOB USG, up $20 from last week.
