US styrene prices were mixed this week as the backwardation in the market steepened. The prompt price was pushed higher by climbing ethylene values. On Friday the US ethylene spot price moved to near 73 cents/lb, up more than 3 cents from last week. The jump in ethylene was somewhat offset by softening benzene values. Overall variable costs for styrene, though, moved above 60 cents/lb this week, up more than half a penny from last week.
