Asia paraxylene closed $4 higher on Friday, settling at $967.75/mt FOB Korea and $982.75/mt CFR Taiwan/China. There were no participants in the Platts Market on Close assessment process and the discussion was thin on the day. A morning bid for an October arrival parcel was posted at $985/mt CFR against an offer at $995/mt CFR but no deals were heard to be concluded. Later in the afternoon, sentiment weakened in line with falling crude. A broker said the discussion level could fall to $980-990/mt CFR. An end-user said he received an offer at $985/mt CFR but the broker said it was a one-off deal to that particular buyer as the seller was hoping to establish a new client.
