Prices rose $20-25/mt on the week, lifted by supply concerns as Japan, South Korea and Taiwan prepare to take down seven plants between February and March for maintenance. A $2.11/barrel spike in the cost of crude oil futures in the past week to $72.65/b also gave propylene prices some support. Japan, South Korea and Taiwan’s seven planned plant shutdowns in February and March will remove about 170,000 mt of propylene production. China’s CSPC is also slated to idle its steam cracker, PP and propylene oxide plants from early March for eight to 10 weeks for a revamp.
