EDC: Spot prices were assessed at $340-350/mt FOB NWE Thursday, following thin trading activity amid a large market absence. In Asia, prices had edged down $30/mt to $420-430/mt CFR amid weakening buyer sentiment following expectations of additional supplies over the coming months. In the upstream caustic soda market, buyers continued to resist large price hikes for the quarter one contract price, sources said. One producer had already dropped intended price hikes of Eur50-60/mt to a slighter Eur10-20/mt.
