EDC: Prices rose $10/mt from a week ago, lifted by bullish trends upstream and down in the ethylene and PVC markets. Asia ethylene supplies are generally expected to remain low through the first quarter and possibly beyond, as Japan and South Korea are slated to take down a number of steam crackers in February and March for maintenance. For now, the vinyls chain is having to compete with other ethylene derivative sectors such as polyethylene and MEG for dwindling monomer supplies.
