Asian monoethylene glycol surged $71/mt week on week to be assessed at $1,140/mt Friday as monetary policy easing by the US Federal Reserve prompted strong end-week spot buying. Friday's price level was the highest since October 25 last year. The Asian MEG market started the week on a firm note, due mainly to tight supply from Saudi Arabia amid plant outages and pre-holiday inventory buildup. The Asian MEG market saw a sharp increase Wednesday as active spot buying emerged in a bid to build inventories ahead of the National Day holiday in China in early October.
