Brazilian butadiene prices continued to face downward pressure this week on the back of recent falls in the US and European markets. Buying interest in Europe was thin this week with prices falling to $3,626-3,640/mt. US prices were stable week on week Friday at 190 cents/lb, down roughly 13 cents/lb from the end of July. This, sources said, was likely to result in a decrease in the September contract, though no announcements were heard at time of publication. Sources said that demand in Latin America was muted as high prices across the globe had resulted in demand destruction. Still, the market remained tight and was unlikely to improve in the near term as Pemex was still under turnaround at its steam cracker in Morelos, Mexico.
