US domestic styrene prices were talked lower on Friday forJuly despite upward movement for feedstock during the week.As expected by one market source, the jump in feedstockswas, “more speculation than anything.” Benzene was seentrailing down Friday after a sharp increase on Thursday.Market participants agreed that styrene remained long in theUS, as the Ineos Bayport, TX plant was confirmed back onlinefrom a 2-month turnaround and US production in generalappeared undisturbed. One source expected a, “penny or twodrop in spot and contract [prices] in July,” down from about62 cents/lb in June. In the export market, a spot deal washeard done at 63 cents/lb for 5,000 tons, thoughconfirmation was not available by time of publication.
