Prices were up as August business was nearly finished and only higher priced US material left to buy. After Brazil announced prices for August in the mid-to-low $1,200/mt’s CFR to Andean countries and reduced offers month-on- month to the Mercusor trading bloc, US HDPE found few buyers in South America. If one could not buy from Brazil, US blow molding and injection were heard sold over $1,300/mt CFR Columbia and Peru but compared to Brazil volume, US material sold at the price was slight. HDPE film was offered this week at $1,350/mt CFR Columbia from the US, and a similar offer was heard from South Korea to South America’s West Coast. The question many wondered was how much if at all Braskem was going to raise their prices in South America.
