With a US837-mil fourth-quarter loss, on US1-bil of write-offs, American Electric Power said Jan 24 it will slash its dividend by 40%, cut costs, sell assets and revert to a traditional utility structure. The Ohio-based power giant raised its earnings forecast slightly for this year to US2.70/share. But the stock fell 5% to US25.65, barely half its US17-bil market value less than a year ago.
