MidAmerican to buy Constellation in tentative agreement for $4.7 billion

Des Moines, Iowa-based MidAmerican Energy Holdings on Thursday said it had reached a tentative agreement to acquire Baltimore-based Constellation Energy for about $4.7 billion. Under the deal, MidAmerican said it will pay $26.50/share for Constellation, $1.73 above the Baltimore-based company's Wednesday closing price of $24.77/share. Constellation, whose gas marketing unit is the second largest in North America, sold an average of 14.2 Bcf/d in the second quarter.
