Report of the Working Group on Maximum Residue Levels Submitted by India and the United Kingdom in their capacity as Co-chairs of this Working Group At the Intersessional Meeting of Intergovernmental Group on Tea held at Rome, Italy on 5th and 6th May2014

Under the aegis of FAO-Intergovernmental group on Tea, the Working Group (WG) on MRL in Tea is working since 2005 for fixing MRLs of pesticide residues in tea based on data generated from supervised field trials carried out in different tea producingcountries. A priority list of chemicals for the data generation was first prepared in 2005 for 24 pesticides. The list was updated subsequently and now it includes 62 pesticides based on actual use and necessity finalized in the Intersessionalmeeting of the group held at Washington DC in Sept 2012. The data generated needs to be submitted to Codex for JMPR review by member countries through national codex contact points. Till date data for a number of compounds were submitted which provided the basis for fixation of Codex MRLs in Tea. Data were also utilized earlier for fixing MRLs in USA, Canada and Australia for a number of compounds.
