Seed of DP 455 BG/RR were treated with Lorsban/Apron/Maxim/Systhane and planted in Kenansville loamy sand. The cool germ of seed was 83% and warm germ was 88%. The test site was planted to peanut in 2005, cotton in 2004, and peanut in 2003. Land preparation included ripping under rows and strip tillage into a wheat cover crop. A split-plot design with seven randomized complete blocks was used. Planting dates were main plot treatments, and in-furrow fungicide treatments (with and without Quadris 2.08F0.6 fl oz + RidomilGold 0.12 fl oz/1000 ft of row) were subplot treatments applied in two, 30-ft rows spaced 3-ft apart. In-furrow fungicide was mixed in water and delivered in a volume of 5 gal/A by a microtube to each seed furrow at planting. Temik 15G at 5 lb/A was alsoapplied in the seed furrow at planting. Seed were planted between 0.25 and 0.50 in. deep at a rate of 3.5 seed/ft of row. Standard practices for cotton production were followed afterplanting. All plots were harvested on 21 Oct with a two-row, spindle picker. Yield in bales/A was determined by weight of seed cotton and gin turnout for samples from replicated plots. Rainfall in Jun, Sep and Oct was 5.75, 4.64 and 4.62 in. above normal, and in Apr, May, Jul, and Aug was 1.44, 0.96, 2.21, and 3.21 in. below normal,respectively. Rainfall during the period totaled 38.2 in., which was 7.2 in. above normal. Minimum air temperatures averaged near normal ( +- 1deg F) in Jun, Jul and Sep, 2deg F above normal in Apr and Oct, 3deg F above normal in Aug, and 2deg F below normal in May. Maximum air temperatures were near normal ( +- 1deg F) in May, Jun, Jul, and Oct, 2deg F below normal in Sep, 3deg above normal in Apr, and 4deg F above normal in Aug according torecords from a NOAA station 4 miles northwest of the test site. Normal represented the mean of records for the past 74 yrs.
