Scott Bader has launched Texicryl~R 13-319, the latest Hase polymer in the growing range of rheology modifiers by the company. The pure acrylic polymer is activated by neutralising to pH 8-9 and provides a dramatic pseudoplastic rheological effect to the water-based system. The product is supplied at 30% solids content, the typical addition level would be less than 0.5% to prevent settling and sagging whilst maintaining levelling properties. These properties are achieved through polymer modification; incorporation of hydrophobic groups to associate with particles at low shear, dissociate at high shear and then recover in a controlled manner. The new additive is compatible with a broad range of coating and adhesives components and provides excellent pigment suspension. Although the additive can be used alone in very high viscosity formulations, benefits arefound when used in combination with other Scott Bader rheology modifiers.
