Our industry has been supplying the building blocks of roads and buildings since Roman times, but technology used in the rock-crushing business today is anything but ancient. Aggregate producers and equipment manufacturers are continually working together to develop better ways to process rock. One of the advanced tools that can be used to identify improvements is the one-of-a-kind crushing and screening research center at Metso Minerals in Milwaukee. Many professionals in the aggregates industry have seen and used the Metso Test and Research Center, which first opened its doors at Nordberg Manufacturing Co. in 1966. Metso Minerals has continued the operation of the facility, and in 2005 made a significant investment to rebuild it. Operational since 2006, the new facility is the most advanced of its kind in the world. The upgrade included new conveyors, bins, structures, vibrating screen, full automation, and will be finalized with the addition of a new HP200 cone crusher this year.
