NMFS issues new document on gravel-extraction guidance

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) issued a new National Gravel Extraction Guidance document that describes 13 recommendations for a basic management plan for gravel extraction operators and eight potential effects of gravel extraction on stream morphology, riparian habitat and anadromous fishes and their habitat. One of the significant changes to the guidance document from the 1996 version is the broadening of the geographic scope to apply to all NMFS regions, rather than just those on the West Coast.
