100 years of Plant Breeding 1913-2013

A century has passed from the publication of the first volume of Zeitschrift f?ur Pflanzenzuchtung – being one of the first journals exclusively dealing with the upcoming, new discipline of plant breeding – by Paul Parey Scientific Publishers, Berlin. Leading scientists of that time became the journal′s very first editor-in-chief and co-editors. C. Fruwirth (Vienna, Austria) was the first editor-in-chief who was assisted by L. Kiessling (Weihens-ephan, Germany), H. Nielson-Ehle (Sval?of, Sweden), K. v. R?umker (Berlin, Germany) and E. von Tschermak (Vienna, Aus-tria) (Fig. 1).
