A decision-making model for the evaluation of projects within the Leader programme.

The EU Leader II initiative covers projects proposed by local action groups or other operators, aimed at development of a local area. In the district of Monte Amiata, a number of projects have been proposed and to select those to be funded a multi-criteria approach has been adopted. The model Electre III has been used to resolve the problem and reasons for its choice are given. A general overview of the economic and land-use context of the district is presented before the model is applied to this case. A number of definitive considerations used within the model are then discussed and possible future developments in the use of these techniques are outlined. An appendix presents a theoretical treatment of the Electre III model and the other lists the projects to which the model was applied.
