Commentary on pravastatin and cancer: need for individual patient data meta-analyses.

We read with interest the individual patient data (IPD) meta-analysis by Matsushita et al. examining the association between pravastatin use and cancer risk.1 This study encompassed data from three Japanese prospective studies, including 13 724 subjects (of whom 427 developed cancer) followed for 70000 person-years. The analysis showed that pravastatin use was not associated with cancer incidence or death. Moreover, the authors concluded that age of patients did not influence the association between pravastatin use and cancer risk.
