Research into Innovative Talent Training in Chinese Institutions of Higher Learning Based on the Competency Model

To build an innovation-oriented country is an important strategic goal raised by China in response to acceleration of its economic development. Training of innovative talents constitutes a linchpin to promoting construction of an innovative-oriented country. Hence, reform of the innovative talent training model has been an urgent task of Chinese institutions of higher learning. Through a thorough literature review, the author finds out that research into the competency model for innovative talent training in institutions of higher learning is insufficient. Meanwhile, Chinese institutions of higher learning have numerous problems with their innovative talent training, which are mainly reflected as less diversity of talent training models, outdated educational concepts, backward construction of the faculties, etc. In order to address all these problems, an innovative talent competency model is built. Based on the model, strategies to optimize talent training in institutions of higher learning are proposed. The author believes that strengthening of the faculties construction, improvement of the curriculum system and optimization of the teaching methods—all these together can help cope with innovative talent training dilemmas of Chinese institutions of higher learning, and promote the innovative talent training reform as well.
