摘要

The economic need for oil and gas in recent decades hasmade it more imperative for researchers to delve much into varioustechniques required to improve productivity in mature oil fields. Theprimary objective of this present work is to develop a polymer gel forprofile modification job to maximize the oil recovery inheterogeneous reservoirs. Basically, xanthan gum graftedpolyacrylamide (PAAm-g-XG) copolymer was synthesized by freeradical polymerization and confirmed by Fourier Transform Infraredspectroscopy (FTIR) analysis. The grafted copolymer attained wascross-linked with Chromium (III) acetate to form a rigid stable gelwith the help of Sydansk’s gel strength coding. The impacts ofvarious parameters for example graft copolymer concentration;cross-linker concentration and temperature were studied by the bottletest method. Sand pack flooding experiment was also performed toinvestigate the plugging capability of the grafted copolymer gel in asimulated heterogeneous reservoir.
