Golbal engineering consulting and construction company Black & Veatch, in association with consulting engineer/architect Hussey, Gay, Bell and de Young, has received the 2009 Engineering Excellence Honour Award for its work on Charleston Water System's Sewer Tunnel Replacement Program in Charleston, South Carolina, US. It was awarded by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of South Carolina.rnThe multi-phased US$123 million tunnel, which will form the backbone of Charleston's waste-water collection system, has been under construction for nearly four years, and is South Carolina's largest sewer infrastructure project. The tunnel was required as it was feared that severe corrosion in the existing sewer tunnels would lead to further deterioration and even collapse.
