Refocus on the pilot hole

Pilot-hole considerations directly affect the entire project. Penetration rates, reaming operations, pull back and, most important, the perpetual liability of owning an HDD installed line, will all be affected by - and a consequence of - the pilot hole. The ability to know the precise location of a directional-drilled line proved to be a steroid-injected catalyst for the HDD industry. The industry grew so fast and today's navigational capabilities are so good that a large segment of the HDD industry developed an unhealthy apathy towards pilot-hole design and steering accuracy.
