Restructure Rocks Imperial

Imperial Tobacco has announced a three-year restructuring following its takeover of former rival Altadis which should save the combined group around €300mn in the financial year to September 2010, rising to €400m two years later. The company will take a one-off hit of around €600mn. Staff - presently 40,000 -will be cut by 2,440. Six of the group's 58 factories will close with a number of other sites undergoing reorganisation. In Spain, 830 out of 6,700 jobs will go with the Alicante dark cigarette factory's production transferred to Logrono. Cigar production in the UK (Bristol) and France (Strasbourg) will move to Cantabria in Spain.
