Serving tobacco for 26 years a profile of CME

In the idyllic Somerset village of Combe St Nicholas is a factory employing around 180 engineers, technicians and office staff, producing high-technology cigarette machinery that is sold worldwide. Mr Colin Mear (now sadly deceased) established his engineering company - Colin Mear Engineering Ltd (CME) - in 1983 within a former flint quarry. Before starting CME, Mr Mear had worked for many years with other suppliers to the cigarette industry.rnInitially his plan was to produce spare parts for the tobacco industry but, soon after CME was formed, customers including British American Tobacco and Philip Morris were asking him to rebuild and upgrade various machines to run at higher speeds.
