Jericho

Jericho is the name given to a family of ballistic missiles developed by Israel. The original Jericho I was developed as part of a French-Israeli program in the 1960s that was ended in 1968. Jericho Ⅱ is an extended range version first fielded in 1981. Jericho ⅡB is a further elaboration on the Jericho Ⅱ offering better range. Israel's ballistic missile effort has often been undertaken in cooperation with other countries, including Iran in the 1970s, and South Africa in the 1980s. The current emphasis in the program is the Shavit space booster, and an extended range version of Jericho, probably based on a new space booster. The new Jericho 3 was test launched on 15 January 2008 and again on 2 November 2011 from the Palmahim AFB.
