Barak 1

The Barak 1 is an Israeli vertically launched, point defense missile system primarily intended for naval use. The Barak 1 is designed to provide shipboard defense against antiship missiles and other threats, such as aircraft and glide bombs, and is small and compact enough to mount on corvettes.rnThe first Saar 5 corvette with the Barak 1 system underwent acceptance trials in 1992 and became operational in 1996 after the Barak system was installed. The missile system is being bought by Israel to arm its three Saar 5 corvettes and 4 or more Nirit class patrol craft. Export clients include Chile, India, and Singapore. IAI has proposed a number of land-based versions of Barak, but most of these have failed to attract customers except for a small sale to Venezuela.
