Meteor SpA developed UAVs since the early 1980s in two basic configurations, a pusher-propeller short-range system, and a turbojet medium range system. The Mirach 20 short-range system was produced in limited numbers (about 40) beginning in 1987-88 for the Italian army under the codename Condor, and for the Italian navy as the Pelican. Other variants with autopilot enhancements to permit preprogrammed flight included the Raven reconnaissance UAV and Parrot data relay UAV. Versions of the Mirach 20 were produced in Argentina as the MQ-4 Agilucho by Quimar, and in the US by Pacific Aerosystems as the Heron 26. Quimar was formerly privately owned, but in 1988, was acquired by the Argentinean ministry of defense. The Mirach 20 became operational with the Italian army in 1988.
