CHINA The China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) has reported that the price of new-season shoes in the country's department stores is up by an average of 20% compared to last spring. Spring season shoes that last year cost between $60 and $90 per pair in Beijing department stores are now costing at least $90 and, in some cases, carry a price-tag of up to $150 per pair. Consumers have complained about the rise in prices, according to the CLIA report, but industry commentators have said rises in production and raw materials costs have made the increase inevitable.
