Lanxess has commissioned a new CO_2 concentration unit at its Newcastle production site, where it produces sodium dichromate for chrome tanning materials - enabling it to cut CO_2 emissions at the plant by a quarter. The specialty chemicals company invested €40 million in the unit, which was completed in 19 months, and says it is the only one of its kind in South Africa. With its own CO_2 concentration unit, Lanxess is no longer dependent on the delivery capacity of external suppliers which have provided the CO_2 until now.
