PORTUGAL Portuguese leather industry body, APIC, said at the end of March that, even if restrictions resulting from the Covid-19 outbreak increase, tanneries will still be permitted "to operate partially". If the shutdown does expand, APIC said the government will still allow beamhouse operations to continue "to make sure that no hide or skin is wasted". GERMANY Upon announcing its results for 2019, specialty chemicals company Lanxess has said it intends to sell its leather business unit. As of December 31, 2019, the leather business unit was recognised as a discontinued operation.
