SIXTY-SEVEN CASES OF TINNITUS TREATED WITH THREE ACUPOINTS IN FRONT OF EARS

Tinnitus refers to auditory abnormality and hearing loss, is the subjective ear ringing of patients and disturbed hearing, manifested in clinic as ear noises with various tones, like cicada ringing, sound of the wind, thunderous noise, sound of the tidewater, sound of a siren, whistling, etc. . It is commonly viewed that phlegm and damp are produced internally due to invasion of exogenous pathogenic wind and heat, internal injury of emotional factors or improper diet; consequently, the stagnation of pathogens transforms into fire, which disturbs upwards and blocks the orifices along meridians, therefore, tinnitus happens. Besides, the disease is related to insufficiency of qi and blood due to weak constitution by chronic sickness, or related to consumption of kidney essence due to overstrain, stress and hypersexual activity. The failure of essence and blood to flow upward to nourish the ears results in tinnitus. From 2000 to 2006, the writers applied three acupoints in front of ears [ermen (耳门 TE21), Tlnggong (听宫 SI19), Tinghui (听会 GB2)] to 67 cases and had achieved the quite good therapeutic effects.
