WIPO Sets Out Patent Work Program, Identifies Areas for Study

Members of the World Intellectual Property Organization have agreed to advance projects examining a range of issues related to the international patent system, work that could eventually revive the organiza-rntion's moribund efforts to draw up a new global treaty on patent harmonization.rnMeeting in Geneva June 23-26, WIPO's Standing Committee on Patents reviewed a report from the organization's secretariat on current international patent issues aimed at helping members establish an agenda for future work. The SCP then agreed on a list of issues for further study, and identified four areas which will be examined at the next SCP meeting in early 2009 based on preliminary studies prepared by the secretariat.
