Singapore Treaty Group Endorses Rules for Application of Non-Traditional Marks

A working group under the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks has agreed on new rules concerning applications for the protection non-traditional marks.rnThe new rules, approved at the first meeting of the working group to the treaty on June 28-29, plug a hole in the 2006 convention. Specifically, they detail rules for the representation of non-traditional marks such as hologram, motion, color, position and sound marks.rnThe changes are still subject to approval from the Singapore Treaty Assembly, which will meet in September on the sidelines of WIPO's annual general assembly meeting. An official involved in the talks said the assembly's approval is a mere formality.
