Report Calls for Further Patent Policy Reform in China

Chinese government policies related to setting quantitative patent targets, for favoring domestic innovation, and the slow movement to better protect intellectual property rights are harming the drive for innovation and eroding the level of patent quality in China, a European Union Chamber of Commerce report released on August 22 declared. The report stated that while overall numbers of patent applications have risen to a level where China now is the top country by volume in the number of domestic patent application filings, the number of recent quality, higher-end patent applications has actually declined.
